Expect Good Things

I’m looking for a job. I hate looking for jobs.

Partly it’s the fact that is a chore. I mean, you’d think there would be some kind of consistency from application to application, but nope. I find myself typing out the same stuff over and over and over again.

It’s tedious.

Then there’s the fact that you have to sort through a lot of crap to find good job postings. And the pickier you are (I’m picky), the more sifting you have to do. I want something I can do from home if at all possible.

That’s a tall order.

But the worst of it is the mind fuck. It’s super important to stay positive while you’re looking, but the slow-going nature of it kinda makes you want to repeatedly stab your desk with the nearest letter opener while absently humming “Flowers on the Wall” by The Statler Brothers. Off key.

It’s a mammoth emotional exercise.

But a friend of my recently told me she honestly believes the universe tends to give us what we expect. If, in your heart of hearts, you think there’s bad stuff out there ready to pounce on you, that’s probably what will happen.

You want the good stuff? You gotta tell yourself it’s there, really there, just waiting for you to find it. And that you will find it.

That’s the hard part.

I’ll keep you posted on my job search. Trust me, when I find a gig I’ll be doing cartwheels and telling everyone. That’ll be an epic day.

Between now and then the goal is simple. Expect good things. Even if I can’t see ’em coming.
