Mason’s eyes were fixed on the clock.

“Time,” he said dispassionately.

Rose huffed. She hated the trials—the timed sections most of all.

“How do you expect me to cast something so complex in such a short amount of time?” she asked.

“Swiftly,” Mason said. “Unless you want me to feed you to the hunters. They won’t wait for you to look up spells.”

He wasn’t wrong. Not about that.

“If only you knew,” she whispered.

“What?” Mason asked, turning.
